New Year Resolutions to help you win more money at the greyhound track

Every year I like to think about the previous year and any new lessons I may have learned that can be written in stone and become part of the handicapping Bible. I do pick up new things here and there along the way, but I find that the basics always seem to yield the best results. So to help us all focus and prepare to profit more in 2013 I present to you...

New Years Resolutions to help you win more in 2013

1. Play fewer races

I never understand why this isn't the easiest rule to follow. I guess it is because people who gamble really like to gamble. That means playing every race. I realize it is boring to watch a race sometimes when you have nothing riding on it but what is more important to you, winning money or not being bored? In a recent conversation with lifelong professional greyhound player Jimmy Smith (now with track data systems and bigjackpotbetting.com) we talked about this very thing. He said when he was playing for a living he would just make a straight trifecta wager on the races he knew he should pass. It only cost $2 and he still had a rooting interest in the race. And the bonus is that occasionally he would hit the straight trifecta, sometimes for a lot of money. So whether you do this, or make a $2 win wager or go to the bathroom, let's wager on less races in 2013. Pick your very best races and put all of your money on them. You will be putting more in races you have a better chance of winning.

2. Play fewer combinations

If you can hit a trifecta for $12 but you are spending $20 then you are costing yourself money every race. In fact, for only $4 more you could double the $12 bet and hit the trifecta twice instead of once. I can't do that you say? Let me ask you this, have you tried? I find that most gamblers that play greyhound racing are lazy. They will use all of their time, talent and 'know how' looking for the winner in a race but after that they just casually select the other runners for the trifecta. Have you considered this? Do you spend 10 minutes looking for the winner only to spend 1 minute picking out the runners to put with your pick for the trifecta? Devote MORE time figuring out the place and show dogs as you do picking your winner. You can hit the same trifecta tickets for less money which will mean MORE profit for you at the end of 2013.

3. Learn something new from someone that is successful

If you want to have success then you need to emulate success. I am not suggesting you need to come learn with me at "Pup U" online at www.greyhoundtracktips.com . Of course you would learn a lot of you did. But you must know someone that plays the puppies that is better at it than you. Talk to them. Learn from them. Even if you only learn one tiny thing you will benefit for it the rest of your life. So it is well worth the investment to attain it. I recently had someone ask me why they should pay me $40 a month to learn from me. I asked them a simple question. If you only learned one tiny thing that helped you either win $10 more a month OR lose $10 less every month, then you small investment with me would earn you $3,000 over the course of the next 25 years you play the greyhounds. And thats if you only learn one tiny little thing. Imagine if you learned a lot! So again, you don't have to learn from me. Just surround yourself with people that know more than you do about greyhound racing. Learn something new!
