Chalk in greyhound handicapping. Another greyhound track tip

It is Saturday morning as I write this. I am preparing for a great day of matinee and evening performances to play and win! I just visited the members forum at my online greyhound players training site. This is where I teach people how to win. They win by watching me, a professional player, in over 50 hours of streaming video.

"Prior to the U (He means Pup U, as my members have dubbed it) I would have been one of the guys arguing with you about playing the chalk, but no more. Also love the at a glance style of your methods. Looking forward to the next installment. Some live capping with this method would be great. It's been a while and these are always my favorite videos. Thanks and keep winning"

Playing so called "chalk" correctly is one of the most profiable, low variance ways of playing. I have several arsenals I use at the track. But find REAL sold chalk key dogs is my bread and butter.

So what would be my best tip for playing chalk? It's real simple. You have to identify the REAL chalk and stay away from false favorites. Every race will have a favorite. In most races these favorites will be bet down to less than 2/1. At less than 2/1 make sure you have a dog and really and truely dominates the rest of the field. This key dog can't be slightly better. He/She must be better by an overwhelming margin.

Come learn how to win with us. In the quote from one of my members above, he asked about live handicapping video. These are my most popular videos on the site. My members get to watch me actually handicap and play races. It is an invaluable tool. It can be what gets you to the next level!

What's the most important thing to win at the greyhound track

Everyone wants to know how to win at the greyhound track. And everyone wants to know the secret to winning more at the greyhound track. The truth is, there isn't really just one thing and there certainly isn't a secret. So why am I writing a blog about this? Simple, there is one thing that will help. It isn't the ONLY thing and it isn't a secret. But it is the best starting point. Of course, this is my opinion. But I think my opinion carries some weight. I have been winning for over 15 years at the track.

The starting point for successful handicapping in my opinion is speed. It is from this launching point that all other factors should be considered. Let me illustrate this with an extreme hypothetical race situation. Lets assume you have a standard US 8 dog race. Seven of the greyhounds average a finish time of 31.00. Now lets imagine the remaining dog has an average finish time of 29.00. A whole second advantage. I would submit to you that post position, track conditions, class of the other dogs or anything else wouldn't matter much in this race. Is it possible the standout dog could lose? Sure, anything is possible. Is it going to happen enough that betting against this greyhound would be profitable? Not likely.

So it is from a first evaluation based on speed that you begin your journey. In races with very closely matched dogs, speed won't be the factor. But you must know the speed to identify this. So speed is still the first factor. Once you evaluate the speed of the greyhounds you can rank them. The top half are your most likely contenders (it could be all 8 of course if they are ranked closely enough) and you start with these contenders.

What will make the difference for these contenders? Will it be the post? Will it be track bias? Will it be the kennel? How many other things can you look at that will matter? You need to look at them all until you find a greyhound best positioned to get the advantage.

So the answer to the original question in my opinion is speed. It is merely the starting point, but it is an important starting point. Possible the most important of anything you can look at.

How to win more at the greyhound track in these uncertain times

You may be aware that several pieces of legislation in Florida and other states have been up for votes this year that could potentially eliminate many greyhound tracks around the country. It looks like most of them have failed for now but I am certain they will come up again in the future. If you earn your income from playing the greyhounds then this legislation is very important for you. Even the casual player should have a plan as well and learn how to adapt in these changing times.

How should you change your play?
If you are a person that only plays one track you should seriously begin looking at other tracks to play. Many basics of handicapping apply to all tracks but each track has unique qualities you will learn. The only way to learn this unique aspects of other tracks is by playing them (even if on paper), keeping records and learning what works and doesn't.

If you play multiple tracks your strategy should be a little different, especially if you are a 'spot player' or cherry picker. If even one track you normally play were to close then you could miss out on several plays a week you have become accustomed to playing. The way to adjust is by looking for at least one more play per track each day. These won't be cherry picked plays, they will need to be value plays. Look for patterns or opportunities to play a potential long shot you wouldn't normally play.

No matter your current method of play you need to always be prepared for the future!

I have 3 slots open at my greyhound university where I teach players to play like a pro. My most recent video training series has just been published for members to view and learn from. In this series "7 days with Pup" My members get to see me play days in a row. They learn how I approach the races everyday, decide what races to play, structure my wagers and cash big. One of the races I hit was for over $1,800 with multiple trifecta and superfecta tickets on one race.

You can play like a pro too. You just need to learn from a pro.
